A Company has reached out to your (your team) to create a solution to aid their users order food online.

Using the design thinking approach, walk me through how you intend to create the solution.

Solution for ordering food online

As a designer, understanding the design process is paramount hence, he is what I would do.

Empathy approach
I will make a research on the problem by checking their data analytics on food orders, check out other successful food delivery companies, send out questionnaires and survey to their current and prospective customers to help me understand the problem.

Define approach

After identifying the problem, I will define the problem to know if it is the UI/UX that is actually the problem or otherwise. In business, there is what we call business model. So, I will also give the company a business model avatar to fill.

This is the stage I will check to see if indeed it is a problem for me to fix as a designer or refer the company to a personnel that specializes in fixing such problem. Perhaps, it could be a collaborative work between us to fixed the problem. For instance, is it the marketing problem or a user experience/user interface problem or maybe they are targeting the wrong audience with a more sophisticated tool.

Ideate approach

This is when I begin to think of alternative ways to solve the problem either by sketching a more detailed design or sketching a design that is less sophisticated or otherwise as the case maybe.

Prototype/Testing

It is about bring my solution to reality and testing it to see if it satisfy the customers need of which is the companies need too.

Practical Analysis

Food ordering company: Sidechops

Problem definition: They can not toggle through the website
Is the UI good: Yes

Is the UX good: No

Empathy: Why is the UX not good?

Is it that it is not well positioned or that the icon do not represent what it is meant for?
This is the stage I do empathic approach.

Define problem: Oh! The icons where not representing what was intended properly and some icons to place or and send request order were missing.

Ideate: I brainstorm and create the more than one solution to provide problem in a sketch format.

Prototype: By creating icons or search for plugins that have the icons I need, I create the UI for order request and implement them into a prototype (wireframing)

Test: I test the outcome, make a presentation of it to the company and if approved, we test it with their active, perspective and random customers to see if it satisfies their need.

If it does, then I have successfully solved the problem but if it does not, I restart the process from where needed.
